Layout Research

I really like the way this page spread has been laid out. I like it because the of the way the picture is on both pages and it has a good looking graphic and some text along side it. I will probably use something like this in the main production of my FMP. I do think the image used looks good, but it does not look like it was taken by a professional photographer. I think this because the lighting is not great, but it does follow the term used in photography "the rule of thirds"

I like this magazine page spread because of the image. I like the way the image takes over both of the pages. It makes you pay all of your attention to whats going on and if you want to know what it is, there is a bit of text telling you who made it which is, but vague. I do like the scene where the photo was taken, but there is not much happening. If you look harder you can notice some people longboarding round the car park which I personally think is nice and a creative idea for a photo.

This magazine layout is quite good. I do like the way it is laid out and I think it would be a great idea for where I could put an article. I could also use this kind of design for my longboard product reviews. The page does look a bit basic, but it makes it easy to read. The ad on the right page looks well designed and has a nice colour scheme. Even the guy in the picture matches the colour scheme which shows that this was well thought out.

Which discipline have you most enjoyed? Why?

My favourite would probably have to be print. This has been my favourite because I enjoy the work that is set and I have a career interest with print.

Which project did you most enjoy? Why?

My favourite project would have to be the DVD cover. I think this was my favourite project because it went well and I could use my main skill set with the project. I also enjoyed it because the final result turned out alright, but nothing amazing.

What is your strongest piece of work? Why do you think this?

I believe my strongest piece of work to be my leaflet. I think this because I put the most effort into it and I actually enjoyed it. It did not turn out the way I wanted it to, but I felt that I put a lot of effort into it because there was an issue with the front cover and flap, but besides those minor problems I felt like it went well.

What sort of work would you like to make now?
a)      Specialist area? Why? I would like to make print work because I have enjoyed nearly all of the projects and I want to continue with this kind of work for my job in the future. To be more specific I would like to make magazines or at least design how they look.

b)      Subject matter? (Themes/ideas that interest you)
My main themes that interest me are longboarding, surfing and gaming because I do each of these and I thoroughly enjoy them. I probably wont do gaming for my final major project just because it has been done so much.

c)       What will you look at for inspiration?
I will look at magazines and posters in the subject that I choose for inspiration. I could also look at other similar magazines or posters that may not be the same as my chosen theme, but may have similarities.
